HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION OF CANADA
Scholarship application process opened in every province and territory

The Horatio Alger Association of Canada is pleased to announce the opening of its online scholarship application process for students beginning their post-secondary studies in the fall of 2016.

This year, a total of 85 need-based scholarships will be awarded:

  • 80 Horatio Alger Canadian Scholarships, valued at $5,000 each, to high school students in every province and territory, and;
  • 5 Horatio Alger National Entrepreneurial Scholarships, worth $10,000 each, targeted at outstanding applicants nation-wide who intend to pursue a business-related degree or have expressed a commitment to following an entrepreneurial career.

Students are encouraged to submit their applications before the October 25, 2015 deadline. The application form can be found on the Horatio Alger Association of Canada's website.

Horatio Alger scholarships are awarded to deserving students in financial need who have overcome significant adversity while demonstrating strength of character, strong academics, a commitment to pursuing higher education, as well as a desire to contribute to society. Funds can be used for both post-secondary vocational or university studies. Since 2009, more than $1 million in scholarships have been awarded to more than 200 deserving young Canadians.

"We are excited that for the first time this year, our association is offering scholarships to students in every province and territory," said Prem Watsa, the newly-named President of the Horatio Alger Association of Canada. "We are proud to support hardworking students achieve their full potential through this well-deserved financial boost."

The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, a Member of the Horatio Alger Association since 2012, shared Mr. Watsa's sentiment.

"Every Member of the Horatio Alger Association has faced adversity in their lives, yet through hard work and determination they prospered. Education is often the key to success, and we are delighted to invest in the future of Canada's next great leaders."
