Fitchett appointed Assistant Principal at Senator Buchanan for 2017/18

Lethbridge School District No. 51 is pleased to announce the appointment of Aaron Fitchett as Assistant Principal at Senator Buchanan Elementary School.

A passionate educator whose teaching is marked by excellence in pedagogy, innovation and a deep understanding of effective management in challenging contexts, Fitchett will be assuming the role of Assistant Principal commencing the 2017-18 school year.

"I am so excited, and genuinely humbled, to be welcomed into the role of Assistant Principal at Senator Buchanan Elementary School," said Fitchett. "I look forward to continuing my work with the incredible students, dedicated staff and faithful families of our Buchanan community. As a former student of Buchanan, I owe a lifelong debt to the compassionate and hardworking teachers who saw my potential, and support me to this day. At Buchanan, our diversity is our strength, and I am grateful that I have this chance to continue learning alongside my greatest source of inspiration: our amazing children." 

An individual possessing a natural inclination for leadership roles, Fitchett has led a variety of initiatives in his current role as teacher at Senator Buchanan. Successful grant applications have afforded students opportunities such as annual site visits from Canadian authors and access to TREX Travelling Art Exhibition, and his belief in fostering leadership in students put him in the role of leader forwarding a host of unique projects that engaged community. A consummate professional, Fitchett has assumed roles such as the Professional Development Chair for ATA Local No. 41 and member of the District Teacher Induction Program.

He has demonstrated strength in fostering relationships and working as part of a team that pursues excellence in structuring engaging learning experiences. Fitchett was recognized for his exemplary teaching practices in his first year of teaching as the Zone 6 Edwin Parr Teacher Award Recipient. He has had experience in an Acting Assistant Principal role and holds a strong belief in teacher capacity building through mentorship. 

He received his Bachelor of Arts, Canadian Studies from the University of British Columbia and Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge. He is pursuing his Masters of Education focusing on Leadership through the University of Lethbridge.
