PEEL DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Staff and students raise more than $33,000 for those impacted by international natural disasters

November 7, 2017

Peel District School Board staff, students and families raised $33,520 in support of the Red Cross International Disaster Relief fund as part of a board-wide Toonie Tuesday campaign on Oct. 3. The fundraiser campaign was in response to recent international natural disasters, including Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma and the earthquakes in Mexico.

"I'm so proud of our dedicated staff, students and families for quickly responding to help those affected by recent devastating disasters," says Peter Joshua, director of education. "I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all for their generous donations and for working together to support this cause."

All proceeds brought to schools or worksites were donated to the Red Cross International Disaster Relief Fund to provide immediate support to areas with the greatest need. Staff, students and families also had the option to make a secure donation online to the Hurricane Harvey Appeal, Hurricane Irma Appeal, the Mexico Earthquake Appeal or the International Disaster Relief Fund.

"On behalf of the Canadian Red Cross, I would like to extend our gratitude to the Peel District School Board students, staff and families for their generous fundraising efforts," says Angel D'Andrea, director of corporate and community engagement at Canadian Red Cross. "This contribution, directed to our International Disaster Relief Fund, will provide life-saving assistance to individuals and families wherever it is urgently needed."
