The Aylesford Community Playground at St. Mary's Elementary School is now open, and it is creating a lot of excitement for both students and school community members.

Principal Isaac Schurman says the project has been in the works over the past few years, and became a reality thanks to many volunteers and community partners who shared a vision for a space that brings families together to play and be active.
"This is an exciting opportunity for the students at SMES as well as the families in our community and surrounding areas," says Schurman. "Families now have the chance to use this facility and promote physical literacy, outside of school time. I look forward to seeing this space used frequently and know it will bring great memories for many years to come."
Students have been exploring and enjoying all aspects of the playground since its opening earlier in January. An official opening event is planned for the spring.
Schurman says there is a long list of people, organizations and businesses to thank for their contributions, including:
Candice Silver, Kevin Hodges, Vanda Dow, the Municipality of the County of Kings, SMES Home and School Association, school staff, Mud Creek Rotary Club, Kings West MLA Leo Glavine, Eastern Fencing, Weihers Trucking and Excavation, Xerium, Dexter Construction and AVRCE Property Services, as well as numerous students, staff and family members who volunteered to help.
