Winnipeg School Division (WSD) is offering its English-as-an-Additional-Language (EAL) Summer Enrichment Program again this summer. Due to public health guidelines, classrooms will have a maximum of 16 students enrolled to allow for social distancing. The program will run from July 8 to 31 at five WSD school locations.
To extend the learning opportunity, WSD is partnering again with NEEDS to offer the program for the full day. The University of Winnipeg's Faculty of Education will also be supporting the program with practicum placements in support of smaller group setting within the sites.
"EAL Enrichment is among our most successful programs and we're very pleased to be able to offer it to our newcomer community, despite restrictions due to the virus," said Rob Riel, Director of Indigenous Education. "We've had to modify eligibility requirements due to social distancing and space, and students are being identified by their home school to recommend registration."
Registration for WSD EAL Summer Enrichment Program is free for residents and costs $450 for non-resident students.
The deadline for EAL student applications, which must be submitted by the student's school, is Monday, June 15. Parents who want to enrol their children in the enrichment program should contact their child's school for assistance.
