With hundreds of new students projected to enter our schools every year, Surrey Schools is the largest and fastest-growing public school district in the province. The district has been working hard to accommodate this rapid growth through the ongoing construction of new schools, additions and building upgrades. Construction has remained steady through the pandemic.

The district currently has nine projects under construction, including five new schools and four school expansions. The construction projects, with their target openings, include:

New Schools

  • Douglas Elementary (17325 2 Ave., 25 classrooms), November 2020
  • Edgewood Elementary (16666 23 Ave., 27 classrooms), January 2021
  • Maddaugh Road Elementary (19405 76 Ave., 25 classrooms), February 2021
  • Grandview Heights Secondary (16987 25 Ave., 60 classrooms), September 2021
  • Regent Road Elementary (18711 74 Ave., 27 classrooms), September 2022

Additions

  • Frost Road Elementary (six classrooms), September 2020
  • Coyote Creek Elementary (four classrooms), November 2020
  • Sullivan Elementary (eight classrooms), January 2021
  • Sullivan Heights Secondary (28 classrooms), November 2021

Combined, these current construction projects will create space for more than 4,500 students.

Additionally, the district has recently received funding from the Ministry of Education for the following projects which are not yet under construction:

New Schools

  • Ta'talu Elementary (address TBD, 27 classrooms), Fall 2023

Additions

  • White Rock Elementary (eight classrooms), Fall 2022
  • Sunnyside Elementary (10 classrooms), December 2022
  • Morgan Elementary (eight classrooms), January 2023
  • K.B. Woodward Elementary (eight classrooms), January 2023

Seismic Upgrades

  • Holly Elementary (10719 150 St.), Fall 2021
  • George Greenaway, Fall 2021
  • Prince Charles Elementary, Fall 2022
  • Queen Elizabeth Secondary, Fall 2022
Recent land acquisitions for four future schools are also among the steps the district is taking to prepare for an increasing student population, with the annual Five-Year Capital Plan identifying needs for classroom space throughout Surrey and prioritizing future projects.
