The Board of Directors of the Canadian School Boards Association (CSBA) and representatives of ministries directly related to shared education priorities are meeting in Ottawa this week. Discussions will focus on the overlap between the work of elected school board members and elected mp's.
CSBA President, Laurie French, is very pleased that Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries recognize the importance of elected officials working together and accepted the invitation to meet.
"Ongoing collaboration is critical," said President French. "Federal mandates, including Indigenous Education, Anti-Racism, Health, Mental Health and Addictions, Official Languages, Copyright, Immigration, and Internet Connectivity, directly impact schools. Although, education is the responsibility of territories and provinces, Federal Ministers' abilities to fulfill their mandates depends, in part, on collaboration with education leaders throughout the country."
The CSBA has scheduled meetings with twenty-two Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and Senators. Given the importance of national collaboration and the role of CSBA as the national voice of school boards, the CSBA is optimistic that other leaders will also accept the invitation to collaborate for the betterment of children and youth.
