The Board of Education at School District 22 (Vernon) is pleased to announce Katherine Oviatt as Assistant Superintendent.

An Assistant Superintendent is responsible for general supervision of the learning agenda, for implementation of approved programs and for evaluation of staff and programs.
Oviatt is the mother of five and grandmother to twelve grandchildren. Oviatt has had a rich learning journey having taught in multiple classroom scenarios from early learning to high school. She has been a Vice-Principal and Principal and has also taught pre-service teachers as a sessional instructor for the University of Lethbridge.
For the past seven years, Oviatt has served as the Superintendent of Learning for Horizon School Division #205 in Humboldt, Saskatchewan - supporting 43 schools, 6300 students, across a geographically large school district. Her work in Early Learning, Classroom Instruction (literacy and numeracy), and Indigenous education has not only benefitted the students and families in Horizon School Division but has earned provincial recognition for the Horizon School Division Board of Education.
Oviatt says she is "both humbled and grateful to join the Vernon School District #22 Leadership Team and is looking forward to learning and growing together in this new and exciting adventure."
"This position has been on the Board's radar for several years now. Strong and sufficient leadership is essential if we are to implement our new Strategic Plan successfully. With a growing School District, the timing is right," said Board Chair Gen Acton.
