On May 5, 2022, the inaugural UBC Black Future Program marked its last of seven sessions with a graduation ceremony at the UBC campus. A big part of the day included a brainstorming session, where students were asked to dream big and share their ideas of what an ideal school environment would be like. Students had much to contribute, such as adding more Black history curriculum and increasing supports for students in schools. (See the photos from the brainstorming session in the gallery below.)
Ainsley Carry, UBC vice-president, students, concluded the celebration with a call to encourage more Black students to join higher education.
"We need more students like you on campus thinking, learning and engaging to help change the world."
VSB students were enthusiastic and spoke about the benefits of seeing more activities that recognize Black culture in schools. Check out the video to listen to student feedback about this amazing learning experience!
