The Lady Eagles of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Elementary School wrapped up an historic undefeated senior girls basketball season, culminating in the Division II CYO Championship.
"These girls have been playing together since grade 4 and have worked extremely hard, year after year to become champions," said Teacher-coach Michael DiCroce.
"The Eagles team was built on effort and defense, combined with overwhelming commitment to one another, exemplifying a true team approach to each and every game. Having had a season removed from basketball due to COVID restrictions, only motivated the girls that much more to lay it all on the line every game in order to achieve their goal."
In the semi-final game against Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Elementary School, the girls were down seven points going into the last three shifts of the game, when the entire team rallied together both offensively and defensively in order to complete the comeback and send themselves into the championship.
The girls faced off against Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Elementary School in the finals where it came down to the wire, winning the game 22-18.
"We congratulate these girls on a historic season and one the Our Lady of Peace community will never forget."
