UCN Strengthens Institutional Leadership on Reconciliation

University College of the North (UCN) is pleased to announce Dr. Ramona Neckoway as UCN's new Vice-President, Indigenous Initiatives and Reconciliation. Dr. Neckoway currently serves as the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Indigenous Initiatives and Reconciliation. Dr. Neckoway will continue to lead this portfolio in her new vice-presidency role.

"Creating a Vice-President responsible for Indigenous Initiatives and Reconciliation was always the planned next step at UCN. This position signifies a pivotal moment in our commitment to honour Indigenous knowledge and perspectives within academia," said Doug Lauvstad, UCN's President and Vice-Chancellor. "I have full confidence that Dr. Neckoway's vision and strong connections within Manitoba's north and other institutions will help make UCN a leader in reconciliation."

The Indigenous Initiatives and Reconciliation Division will continue to focus UCN's efforts and progress on reconciliation. The division creates opportunities to increase access to Indigenous language training and revitalization and pursues innovative Indigenous-focused research.

"Reconciliation is a critical piece of higher education. We must recognize the importance of fostering meaningful connections, understanding, and respect for Indigenous peoples and their cultures," said Dr. Neckoway. "I look forward to meeting with my colleagues at other post-secondary institutions and to working with northern communities."
