MCMASTER UNIVERSITY
Search begins for new director, Student Wellness

March 25, 2025

McMaster University is seeking a dynamic health-care leader to oversee the Student Wellness Centre (SWC)  and the David Braley Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre.

The role of director, Student Wellness is opening as longtime SWC Director Roseanne Kent retires after decades of championing student health and well-being at McMaster.

Kent's leadership includes supporting student mental health nearly 20 years ago at what was then called Campus Health. The university started proactively offering mental health services for students for the first time in response to their needs.

"We wanted students to feel safe and to be able to ask for what they needed," Kent says.

"This involved thinking of mental health as something that impacts us throughout our lives and health education as an important part of our overall well-being."

Under her leadership, the university started offering alternative health services, and expanded counselling and mental health support.

Today, the Student Wellness Centre serves more than 50,000 student visitors per year as they access clinical and counselling services.

"The Director, Student Wellness is a member of the Student Affairs leadership team and a champion for student health and well-being," says Sean Van Koughnett, associate vice-president, Students.

"I want to thank Roseanne for her years of service and commitment to McMaster and our students. She has made a significant impact in such an important area of students' lives, and through the many changes and challenges at the university and in the sector related to student health and well-being."
