In a move celebrated by alumni and the local soccer community, Brandon University Athletics has officially appointed one of its own, Diego Alejandro Rodriguez, as the new head coach of the Brandon Bobcats men's soccer team. The announcement confirms the return of the proud alumnus to the program he once starred in as a player.

For Rodriguez, this appointment is the culmination of a journey deeply rooted in Brandon. After a standout career wearing the Bobcats' blue and gold he has also served as an influential assistant coach with the soccer programs. His father, also named Diego, is the head coach of the Bobcat Women's soccer team, creating a father/son head coach tandem that is possibly the first in MCAA/CCAA history.
"Diego's passion for this university and this soccer program is unmatched," said Russ Paddock, Athletic Director. "He understands the culture of being a Bobcat because he has lived it. He was a leader on the field as a student-athlete and he has proven himself to be a tremendous mentor. We are thrilled to welcome him home to lead our men's team into its next chapter."
Rodriguez's deep ties to the community and his understanding of the student-athlete experience at Brandon University are seen as invaluable assets. He is known for his tactical knowledge and his ability to connect with and motivate young players.
"To come back and lead the team that gave me so much is an incredible honor," Rodriguez stated. "I am humbled and excited to have this opportunity. My goal is to build a program that excels on the field, succeeds in the classroom, and makes our community and our alumni proud.
As the summer continues, Diego is excited to work towards bringing his vision of Bobcat Soccer. "We will work to instill a culture of discipline, hard work, and passion for the game. It's good to be home."
