The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) community is deeply saddened by the recent death of our honorary board member Nadir Mohamed.
Mohamed was one of Canada's most respected business leaders and philanthropists.

Nadir Mohamed will be remembered for his business and philanthropic leadership and his vast contributions to the TMU community.
He was known widely for his tenure as president and CEO of Rogers Communications Inc, where he helped shape the country's telecommunications landscape.
His success was recognized by Bloomberg, who named him one of the world's most successful immigrants.
Unwavering commitment
Mohamed's unwavering commitment to advancing Canadian innovation, entrepreneurship and community building extended well beyond the corporate world.
He dedicated his time to serving on numerous boards in addition to TMU, Tennis Canada, UHN Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation.
More recently, he was Chair of DMZ Ventures Inc., TMU's innovation and entrepreneurship arm, contributing his leadership to help grow TMU's impact in startup incubation and innovation ecosystems.
Led fundraising efforts, honorary board member
Mohamed first joined TMU's Board of Governors in 2007 and helped shape the university's strategy and governance.
He was reappointed for two additional terms. In August 2023, he rejoined the board as an honorary member.
Nadir's contributions to TMU went beyond serving on the Board of Governors. In 2012, he helped lead fundraising efforts as part of the "Make Your Mark" campaign cabinet to raise more than $200 million for the university.
In recognition of his service and impact, upon his retirement from Rogers Communications, the University created a $10,000 postdoctoral fellowship in his name at The Image Centre.
Generosity, integrity, giving back
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nadir was known for his generosity, integrity and commitment to giving back.
Through the Nadir & Shabin Mohamed Foundation, he and his family supported causes in education, healthcare, and community development.
"Nadir was a valued friend and supporter of Toronto Metropolitan University. His belief in education, innovation and leadership leaves a lasting legacy that has touched our institution and the broader community alike," said TMU President and Vice-Chancellor Mohamed Lachemi. "On behalf of the TMU community, I extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues."
