This week, Concordia is launching its 2025 Centraide Campaign, with the goal of raising $200,000.
The funds raised support Centraide of Greater Montreal, whose mission is to fight poverty and social exclusion. As Montrealers struggle with rising housing costs, growing food insecurity and other community challenges, Centraide's distribution of financial support to hundreds of community groups is essential.
Each year, Centraide's services help some 800,000 Montrealers about one in five in Montreal, in Laval and on the South Shore through 375 agencies and projects.
"Throughout its history, Concordia has excelled by prioritizing inclusion, social justice and giving people every opportunity to succeed," says Concordia President Graham Carr. "Those values are also at the heart of Centraide's work to provide a brighter future for young people, decent living conditions for the most vulnerable, and caring communities for those at risk of being left behind."
Last year, thanks to the commitment and creativity of volunteers and the generosity of donors, the Concordia campaign surpassed its goal of $200,000. Centraide of Greater Montreal's 2024 campaign raised a record $71.3 million.
Returning as campaign co-chairs are Annie Gérin, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, and Philippe Beauregard, chief communications officer. Denis Cossette, chief financial officer, is back as the Leaders campaign chair.
"While it's unfortunate that Centraide is needed as much or more than ever, it's encouraging to see how our community members have lent their support to these campaigns," Gérin says.
"For more than 50 years, Concordia has been a pillar of Montreal's social and economic prosperity," adds Beauregard. "Year after year, our faculty, staff and retirees generously give back through Centraide, because they see firsthand how a strong, caring and compassionate community benefits all of us."
Once again, Concordians will have a chance to contribute to the Leaders campaign by making contributions starting at $1,248, or $48 per pay after tax, equal to $26.06 per pay or $1.86 per day.
"First-time Leaders' gifts will be matched by Défi Centraide," Cossette reports. "Furthermore, gifts by current Leaders who up their donations by 10 per cent or more will also be matched by Défi Centraide."
