TRENT UNIVERSITY
TUFA Agreement Ratified by Faculty Association Membership and Trent University's Board of Governors

November 17, 2025

The Trent University Faculty Association (TUFA) and Trent University have jointly announced that the Board Executive Committee, on behalf of the University's Board of Governors, ratified a new collective agreement with TUFA. The agreement was previously ratified by TUFA on Saturday November 8, 2025, when a majority of faculty voted in favour of the agreement.

TUFA represents 330 full-time faculty, limited-term appointments and professional librarians at Trent University.

"These are challenging times for Ontario's post-secondary education sector and so we are pleased to have reached an agreement that demonstrates respect for the work done by our members while strengthening the University as we navigate the next three years," said Susan Wurtele, chief negotiator for TUFA.

The three-year collective agreement signed on October 24, 2025 addressed a number of issues including the use and impact of Artificial Intelligence, intellectual property rights, support for research activities and members in leadership roles, the parity formula that informs compensation decisions, and processes for greater equity and efficiency.

"This agreement speaks to Trent's commitment to the quality of teaching and research that defines our institution," said Dr. Cathy Bruce, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University. "Faculty are central to that work, and this outcome ensures we can continue to advance our academic priorities with clarity and shared purpose."

Trent University and TUFA are pleased to have reached a negotiated settlement that will allow the University to continue to deliver on its mission.
