The StFX team, named X-abytes, and coached by Dr. Milton King, placed 49th out of 96 teams, which improved StFX's placement from last year. The X-abytes also finished fifth out of universities from Atlantic Canada.
Multiple satellite sites hosted the competition across the region on November 9. StFX, along with Mount Allison University, the University of New Brunswick, and the University of Prince Edward Island, attended the site hosted by Université de Moncton.
Mr. Clark says the competition was a rewarding experience.
"Programs like ICPC foster competition. Competition inspires passion. Passion gives purpose to youth, and drives innovation," he noted. "Some would say youth are lacking direction nowadays, so programs that incentivize student organization around STEM topics are meaningful. Thank you to Dr. King for organizing StFX's participation."
The International Collegiate Programming Contest is the main competition for programming teams of universities across Northeast North America. The winners advance to the next level of competition, the North American Championship, which brings together some of the best competitive programming teams in the world.
