McMaster advances to 56th in the world for life sciences and medicine

McMaster has been recognized as one of the best universities in the world to study life sciences and medicine, jumping four spots to 56th globally, according to the QS World University Rankings by subject.

In addition to the overall category of life sciences and medicine, McMaster also rose in four specific subject areas this year, ranking among the top 35 globally in their respective subject areas:

  • Anatomy and physiology jumped at least 33 spots to rank 18th in the world
  • Nursing advanced six spots to rank 24th in the world
  • Kinesiology (sports-related subjects) advanced eight spots to 25th in the world
  • Medicine jumped ten spots to rank 31st in the world

Kinesiology is a program within the Faculty of Science that examines the role of physical activity and movement in promoting human health, while anatomy and physiologynursing and medicine are all part of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

"This ranking reinforces McMaster's reputation as a powerhouse in subjects focused on good health and well-being and reflects our drive toward educational excellence," says McMaster President Susan Tighe.

"I'm proud of our faculty, students and staff for their contributions to making McMaster internationally recognized as a great place to learn and thrive."

The university has also climbed to 180th in the world for engineering and technology and made gains in arts and humanities and social sciences and management.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject are based on a comparative analysis of more than 18,300 individual university programs from over 1700 universities in 100 locations around the world.
