CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY
Two Concordians named to Order of Canada

July 10, 2026

Two members of the Concordia community were among 61 new appointments to the Order of Canada, announced on June 26 by Governor General of Canada Louise Arbour, LLD 01.

Congratulations to these accomplished members of our community who were named Members to the Order of Canada:

David Fung, DSc 22

Hong Kong-born David Fung is a technology integrator and serial entrepreneur who has founded or co-founded more than 25 business ventures in North America, Europe and Asia.

Trained as a chemical engineer, Fung has held key research and operational positions at global chemical and engineering companies and has spent much of his career developing sustainable industry and energy solutions. These include the world's largest smelter sulphuric acid recycling system, a Sino-Canadian waste-powered plant in Shanghai, and a packaging-recycling partnership in Europe, Asia and North America.

Fung received an honorary doctorate from Concordia in 2022.

Nancy Nicol, BFA 74

Nancy Nicol has made an enduring contribution to human rights through her activism, documentary filmmaking, scholarship and teaching.

A professor of Visual Arts at York University since 1989, she has documented the history of 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy in Canada through award-winning films and influential research that have preserved vital queer histories and advanced public understanding.

Her work has explored landmark struggles for equality, including same-sex marriage and queer parenting, while engaging communities through participatory research and storytelling. By combining creative practice, academic leadership and social justice advocacy, Nicol has helped shape national and international conversations on equity, inclusion and human rights.
