Dr. Brandon Tozzo, a faculty member in the Political Studies department at Trent, has won a place in the Identity Politics in American Elections program through the American Embassy, which will see him covering the upcoming 2016 U.S. election, up-close and personal.
"This ten day visit to Washington DC will see me interviewing academics, interest groups and representatives who are participating in the American political system," explains Prof. Tozzo. "I'll even be there on Election Day and get to see it up close."
The program examines how different sectors of the electorate organize and direct their political engagement in terms of specific issues and provides Canadian political professionals the opportunity to participate in the 2016 political process, with a specific focus on the influence of interest groups in the United States. Professor Tozzo will have the opportunity to interact directly with U.S. counterparts, media officials, representatives, analysts, and academics.
Prof. Tozzo teaches POST 3170H U.S. Politics, has written extensively on American politics, and works regularly as a consultant for CBC and CTV. His forthcoming book, Hegemony after the Great Recession: A Transformation in World Order, evaluates the implications of US political polarization on global stability and American hegemony in the 21st century.
