The Alberta College of Art + Design (ACAD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. André Plante as Vice President Academic and Provost effective Wednesday, August 15, 2018 during their transition from a college to university with a new name and brand to be revealed January 2019.

In that capacity he will oversee academic and student affairs, integrated planning and provide academic leadership to the Schools of Craft + Emerging Media, Critical + Creative Studies, Communication Design, and Visual Art. As well, he will provide administrative leadership to the Registrar's Office, Academic Administration, Luke Lindoe Library, Research + Graduate Studies, Student and Enrollment Services and ACAD's Lodgepole Center.

"Dr. Plante offers a multifaceted and a well-rounded view of creative industries and the art and design education sector," said ACAD President + CEO Dr. Daniel Doz. "As a lifelong student, a lecturer, program chair, Associate Dean, Dean, Director and Associate Vice President with over 25 years of experience in Canadian and international higher education, he has experienced countless facets of the academic world which well prepared him to cooperate and work in concert with all our students, faculty and staff."

Dr. Plante arrives to ACAD after serving as Associate Vice President, Corporate Planning, Facilities and Sustainability at Sheridan College in Ontario. Over the last seven years, he worked to create a stewardship approach to Academic Resources and Learning Spaces in order to align the college needs with the strategic plan and better control the institution's fast-growing footprint. Previously, as Dean of Academic Planning and Development, he lead a cross-disciplinary team involved in Curriculum and Faculty Development, Quality Assurance, Learning Technologies, Policies, Strategic Planning and Institutional Research.

"I am honoured to join the ranks of such an esteemed institution as ACAD," said Dr. Plante. "As a leader, I am energized by new and exciting challenges, and I am especially looking forward to work in concert with students, faculty and staff on the transition from college to university."

Dr. Plante has worked on many exciting international academic ventures in Asia. In 1995, on behalf of an international consortium, he opened a Design College in Shanghai, China. The following year, he participated in the opening of a computerized language laboratory for an ESL school in Vietnam. For a period of 2 years, he had the opportunity to study Colour Science and Interface Design as an invited researcher at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Laboratory in Kyoto, Japan.

Recently, he acted as an External Examiner for the New Media Department at Singapore Polytechnic making recommendations on matters relating to assessment, teaching, curriculum and facilities. ACAD is pleased to welcome André as part of our Executive team as we move towards becoming one of Canada's foremost art and design universities.
