In the spirit of the Famous Five, the Persons Case Scholarship will invest $100,000 in future leaders promoting gender equality.
The scholarship was established in 1979 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Persons Case, the historic court decision confirming that women were considered persons' in Canadian law.
The Persons Case Scholarship is open to students of all genders in the arts, humanities and social sciences fields whose work advances gender equality or who are studying in fields where their gender is under-represented. Each student will receive $2,500, for a total investment of $100,000.
"The Persons Case was a landmark moment in Canadian history. This scholarship honours the fortitude and leadership provided by the Famous Five - all Alberta women - and will empower the students of today to be trailblazers in their own right.
