Westwind students recently travelled to Lethbridge Polytechnic to speak about their experiences in the Intro to Trades course. This course is one of the Dual Credit opportunities available to students across the Division, and the students' presentations highlighted the value of learning in a hands-on, industry-focused environment.
Dual Credit courses allow high school students to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously, at no cost. These courses provide meaningful exposure to post-secondary learning while helping students make informed decisions about future career pathways. Students gain practical skills, confidence in their abilities, and valuable insight into real workplace expectations.
Westwind School Division is proud to partner with Lethbridge Polytechnic, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and Olds College to offer a wide range of Dual Credit options. Each partnership expands the opportunities available to students and supports their individual learning interests.
Students who wish to explore Dual Credit should speak with their school's academic advisor to see what is currently offered and whether Dual Credit is right for them. These opportunities are best suited to students in grades 11 and 12. Students who have suggestions for future areas of study are encouraged to share their ideas with their school principal.
