In March, nearly a hundred Canadian and international students will arrive in Montreal to participate in final interviews for the McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill University.
Established with a landmark $200-million gift in 2019, the McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill are Canada's largest leadership-based scholarships for master's and professional studies. Applicants came from more than 2,300 universities worldwide, and 280 advanced to a first round of interviews in October and November. Of these interviewed candidates, 66 earned a regional award, and 91 were selected as finalists.
The 38 international finalists will arrive from across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, with some travelling more than 10,000 kilometres to attend interviews in person. Their travel costs are covered, and for most, this marks their first visit to Canada and Quebec. The newly represented countries where finalists completed their studies include Barbados, Hungary, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, and Sri Lanka.
The 53 Canadian finalists include students from 31 different cities, from Sydney, NS, to Yellowknife, NWT.
