Nearly 160 young women explored careers in the skilled trades at Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Jill of All Trades event, a hands-on initiative aimed at breaking down barriers and building interest in the sector.
Hosted by Women in Trades and Technology (WITT), powered by Orano, the event brought together students in Grades 9-12 from across the province for interactive workshops in 12 trades including welding, carpentry, millwright and electrical; along with six technology programs such as mining engineering technology, design and manufacturing and veterinary technology.
Guided by Sask Polytech instructors, students and industry professionals, participants rotated through practical sessions designed to build confidence and spark curiosity about career pathways often underrepresented by women.
More than 80 volunteers supported the event, serving as mentors and role models.

"Jill of All Trades encourages young women to consider opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies," said Allison Zerr, WITT program head. "It creates a safe, engaging environment where students can try a trade, discover new interests and see themselves in these careers."
WITT aims to inspire participants to pursue education and careers in trades and technology, helping build a more diverse workforce for the future.
