The University of Regina celebrated the opening of its new Saskatoon campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 3, marking a new chapter for the Faculties of Nursing, Social Work, and La Cité universitaire francophone in the City of Bridges.
The new 16,000-square-foot facility provides dedicated space for students, faculty, and staff, with enhanced classrooms, student gathering and study spaces, breakout rooms, teaching studios, and technology designed to support in-person, hybrid, and remote learning.
The campus is home to approximately 800 Nursing students in Saskatoon, along with 500 Social Work students and faculty and La Cité programming. The new space also provides a dedicated classroom for smudging and other Indigenous cultural practices.
University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jeff Keshen said the new campus strengthens the University's ability to serve students and communities in Saskatoon and across Saskatchewan.
"A university's reach should not be limited by the walls of its main campus," said President Keshen. "Our students live, work, and build their lives in communities across Saskatchewan, and our responsibility is, whenever possible, to meet them where they are. This new Saskatoon campus strengthens our ability to do exactly that, providing students with a place to learn and build community while extending the University of Regina's reach across the province."
The new campus was made possible through support from the Government of Saskatchewan and reflects the University's ongoing commitment to providing accessible, high-quality post-secondary education to students throughout the province.
"Our government is proud to contribute $4.2 million to help establish a facility that reflects the needs of today's learners," said Minister of Advanced Education Ken Cheveldayoff. "This new campus will strengthen the University of Regina's ability to serve students in Saskatoon and the surrounding area, preparing them for in-demand careers across Saskatchewan."
The new facility includes teaching studios equipped with enhanced audiovisual technology, allowing the Faculty of Nursing to deliver and record lectures remotely and create more flexible learning experiences. Faculty of Social Work students have access to larger classrooms, additional breakout and study spaces, and areas designed to foster community and connection.
The facility also provides space for La Cité universitaire francophone to establish a presence in Saskatoon, supporting bilingual programming and strengthening connections with the city's Francophone community.
The campus represents an important evolution in the University of Regina's long-standing presence in Saskatoon. By bringing several programs and services together in one dedicated location, the facility creates opportunities for greater collaboration and provides flexibility for other University units to connect with students and communities in Saskatoon.
The new Saskatoon campus reflects priorities outlined in the University of Regina's strategic plan, Together, We Serve. The plan emphasizes student success, meaningful community connections, accessibility, and innovation, priorities that are reflected in the new facility and the University's continued commitment to serving students across Saskatchewan.
