Minister of Health, Pat Angnakak presented six Queen Elizabeth II scholarship awards to top Nunavut Arctic College (NAC) nursing students on May 25. The awards are part of the Department of Health's continued financial support to train Nunavummiut nurses.
"On behalf of all Nunavummiut, I would like to thank NAC students who choose to pursue an exciting career in nursing. Integrating skilled Nunavummiut health professionals into the health care workforce, is part of our government commitment to Sivummuaqpalliajjutivut, and to help increase and preserve the quality of health care services now and for years to come," said Minister Angnakak. "I would also like to congratulate the recipients of this year's awards; the Department of Health is proud to support them as they excel throughout the NAC nursing program. Their dedication and hard work will help build a health care system we can all be proud of; one that serves the needs of our people."
The 2018 scholarship award winners are Maybell Enuaraq, Amiel Hernandez, Oopik Aglukark, Samantha Cooper, Maria Fellen Atienza and Mavis Ell. Minister Angnakak presented students with their $3,000 scholarships at a luncheon held in their honour.
The Queen Elizabeth II scholarship awards are presented annually to the top students in their second, third and fourth years of the nursing program.
