KEYANO COLLEGE
Keyano College Announces New Indigenous Student Centre

July 11, 2024

Keyano College is excited to announce the construction of a new Indigenous Student Centre on its Clearwater Campus. This initiative, rooted in the spirit of "Keyano," meaning "sharing" in Cree, reflects the college's commitment to community and reconciliation.

Honouring Indigenous Culture

The Indigenous Student Centre is designed to be a home for Indigenous culture, featuring:

  • A ceremonial area for traditional practices.
  • A learning common for study and group activities.
  • A kitchen for communal cooking.
  • A display area for Indigenous art and artifacts.
  • A space for an Aunty or Elder-in-residence program.

Support from the Bouchier Family

The Bouchier Family Charitable Trust has generously donated $250,000 to fund the fundraising efforts. Nicole Bourque-Bouchier stated, "As we look back on the past 25 years of Bouchier, we are humbled by the journey and the support we have received from our community. We believe in paying it forward, and this legacy donation to support the Indigenous Student Centre at Keyano is just the beginning. We are excited about the future and remain committed to promoting opportunities for Indigenous peoples and community development."
