ENCOURAGING POSITIVE STUDENT BEHAVIOUR
Douglas College launches Respect Campaign

Douglas College is encouraging positive student behaviour on campus with the Let's Do Respect campaign.

The campaign features posters with messages that champion dialogue, inclusivity, kindness and mindfulness. The aim is to promote a positive social climate on campus where all people are treated with respect and dignity, said Jay Solman, manager of the Office of Student Support and Conduct.

"This is one way we can celebrate the positive qualities at Douglas College that we want students to model. By promoting campus respect and civility through the Let's Do Respect campaign we can contribute to positive student conduct," Solman says.

The campaign is one aspect of a broader approach to student conduct that Solman is heading up at the College. In tandem with the poster campaign, Solman produced a video featuring students and employees calling on students to take a stand against discrimination, harassment and sexual violence. In the coming months, Solman will be developing online educational modules focused on raising awareness about sexual violence, as well as workshops on conflict resolution.

"This initiative, supported by many areas on campus, will raise awareness and provide the tools for students to resolve conflict in a more positive and respectful manner," says Duane Seibel, Director of Student Affairs and Services.
