March 12, 2019

The 2019 Emeritus/Emerita Awards were presented to former Douglas College faculty members Colin Campbell, Ingrid Currey, Cheryl Swan and Calvin Wharton on Jan. 25. The designation of Douglas College Faculty Emeritus/Emerita recognizes the excellence and outstanding contributions of faculty who are now retired. The designation was first bestowed in 2005, and since then, 49 retired faculty members have received it.

"This designation is awarded to outstanding faculty whose contributions to their discipline are recognized by their peers," said Kathy Denton, President of Douglas College. "They are passionate educators who have left an indelible mark on their profession and the College."

Colin Campbell taught in the Department of Criminology for 20 years. He is a respected scholar, and many of his former students now hold responsible positions in the Canadian criminal justice system.

Ingrid Currey taught in the Department of Psychiatric Nursing for 29 years and is recognized for her expertise in both psychiatric nursing practice and psychiatric nursing education.

Cheryl Swan is a passionate educator, talented actor and director who taught in the Theatre Department for 26 years.

Calvin Wharton, a published author and former instructor in the Creative Writing Department for 25 years, is remembered for his sincerity, kindness, humour and grace.
