After an extensive search, Langara College is pleased to welcom the new Dean for the Faculty of Science: Dr. David Anderson. His first day will be August 6, 2024, in advance of the new fall semester.
Dr. Anderson currently serves as the Associate Dean of Transdisciplinary Scholarship at the University of Calgary (UC) in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, overseeing the development of a new suite of transdisciplinary graduate programs. He is also an associate professor in the department of biochemistry and molecular biology in the Cumming School of Medicine at UC.
During his tenure at UC, he led the Bioinformatics program, working with faculty to successfully drastically reduce its attrition rate. He also established the Precision Health Program, helping to build it from the ground up; the program has 23 courses and 25 faculty spread across 10 departments. A strong believer in engagement and facilitation, he has experience prioritizing principles of equity, diversity and inclusion across all aspects of programs, including work with UC's Indigenous Engagement team on course planning, policy, advisory, and committee membership, which will be invaluable as Langara begins implementing on the actions outlined in our recent EDI framework; read more about Dr. Anderson's research activities and published work.
We are excited about Dr. Anderson taking on the role of the Dean of Science and what his leadership will bring to the Faculty of Science at Langara. His leadership and administrative experience as well as his background as a scientist present new opportunities.
