September 23, 2024

University Canada West's series, Understanding Indigenous History: A Path Forward, has just won another award.

The six-part series was named a 2024 MUSE Creative Awards Platinum winner in the Video - Documentary category.

Released in April, the series aims to encourage Canadians to learn about Indigenous history through powerful personal narratives.

"From the beginning of this project, our goal has always been to highlight the importance of including Indigenous perspectives in our collective understanding of the history of our country," said Midya U, UCW's Vice President, Marketing and Communications.

"We are truly honoured to receive this Platinum award as recognition of the hard work and dedication of everyone who worked to make this project a reality."

The MUSE Creative Awards is a prestigious international advertising awards platform, that celebrates excellence and innovation in creative design, advertising and digital media, recognizing the inspirational force behind the artistic projects that push boundaries and set new standards.

Understanding Indigenous History: A Path Forward is hosted by award-winning Canadian broadcast journalist Lisa LaFlamme and features extensive interviews with prominent First Nations leader Phil Fontaine, former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, and internationally recognized human rights expert Kathleen Mahoney, as well as special guests.

The series endeavours to help viewers navigate the intricate webs of Indigenous history and Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.

The series is available to view on UCW's YouTube Channel and is now also available as a podcast.

Understanding Indigenous History was produced by Midya U, produced and written by Rosa Hwang and filmed by director of photography Stéphane Brisson with Fontaine, Mahoney and LaFlamme serving as executive producers.
