University Canada West shortlisted for ESG award

December 3, 2024

University Canada West was recently named a finalist at The ESG & Sustainability Awards 2024 for its series, Understanding Indigenous History: A Path Forward.

The six-part series was among the finalists for the Best ESG Campaign or Case Study to Improve Education or Access to Education award.

The ESG & Sustainability Awards celebrate, recognise and reward outstanding Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance, showcasing the best ESG performance in line with the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

"We are honoured to be among the finalists for this prestigious award," said Midya U, UCW's Vice President, Marketing and Communications. "The goal of this project has always been to encourage Canadians to learn more about Indigenous history in this country and, through accessible education, empower people across Canada to join the national journey to Truth and Reconciliation."

Released earlier this year, Understanding Indigenous History: A Path Forward is hosted by award-winning Canadian broadcast journalist Lisa LaFlamme and features extensive interviews with prominent First Nations leader Phil Fontaine, former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, and internationally recognized human rights expert Kathleen Mahoney, as well as special guests.

The series is available to view on UCW's YouTube Channel and is also available as a podcast.

Understanding Indigenous History was produced by Midya U, produced and written by Rosa Hwang and filmed by director of photography Stéphane Brisson with Phil Fontaine, Kathleen Mahoney and Lisa LaFlamme serving as executive producers.
