BHP and Carlton Trail College look forward to launching the 10th year of a program delivery partnership that provides scholarships to regional youth pursuing post-secondary education and training in the field of their choosing.

BHP's Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students from eligible schools and communities located in proximity to the Jansen Project's site in east-central Saskatchewan. Scholarships are available to high school students graduating in the current year or recent high school graduates under the age of 30 who are attending a recognized post-secondary program for the first time.
Eligible schools, communities and First Nations include: Annaheim; Beardy's and Okemasis' Cree Nation; Day Star First Nation; Englefeld; Fishing Lake First Nation; George Gordon First Nation; Humboldt; Imperial; Kawacatoose First Nation; Lanigan; LeRoy; Muenster; Muskowekwan First Nation; Punnichy; Quill Lake; Raymore; Watrous; Watson; and Wynyard.
Carlton Trail College administers the program on behalf of BHP.
"Students want to develop useful skills and gain knowledge that will help them develop meaningful careers," said Deanna Gaetz, Carlton Trail College's Business and Skills Training Director. "Since the start of the scholarship program, Carlton Trail College has been committed to supporting BHP's vision of skilled, future workforce development within our region."

- In 2021, 30 scholarships, each with a value of $2,500, were presented to students from 11 eligible schools and six First Nations communities.
- Since 2013, BHP has awarded $572,500 worth of scholarships to 222 recipients.
- Recipients are determined based on academic standing, community involvement, letters of reference, financial need and insight into community and/or global matters.
- BHP has committed to gender balance by C2025 at all levels of the organization, but also works actively to foster all types of inclusion and diversity (including gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identification, neurodiversity, etc.).
- A BHP apprenticeship program is being offered between 2022 and 2026 during the construction period to help develop a pool of talented labour as the project transitions into operations. The apprenticeship program features eight weeks of pre-employment training in Humboldt and Quinton and includes four trades: Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Electrician, Industrial Mechanic (millwrights) and Instrumentation and Control Technician. The target demographic for the program is Indigenous and female workers for representation and gender parity.
