UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK
UNB introduces one-year track to master of applied health services research program

June 21, 2024

The University of New Brunswick (UNB) has introduced a new one-year stream to the applied health services research (MAHSR) program. The new stream offers students a course-based approach to the traditional thesis-based program. Additionally, students can now choose to complete their degree in either one or two years.

With the new one-year virtual stream of the MAHSR program, students can advance their leadership, professional and research skills in health services faster and with more versatility.

"Availability of a one-year, online, course-based stream for this degree offers students greater flexibility to study health services research," said Dr. Lisa Keeping-Burke, program lead for the MAHSR program at UNB.

"Students are now better positioned to choose a course of study that best suits their needs and life situation, whether it is to undertake a two-year research thesis-based option or to complete a one-year non-thesis course-based option."

Throughout the program, students will take an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare research, learning about the intersections of patient care, health policy, mental health, community health and more.

Students in the program can also receive hands-on experience through an elective residency placement course.

The MAHSR program is a collaborative venture between UNB, the Atlantic Regional Training Centre (ARTC), Memorial University of Newfoundland, Saint Mary's University and the University of Prince Edward Island, and is designed for students interested in pursuing exciting careers in health research, healthcare and health policy.

The application deadline to apply to the MAHSR program for the fall semester is July 15, 2024.
