TRENT UNIVERSITY
Upgraded Fitness Centre at Trent Athletics Centre Now a Hub for High Performance Training

March 31, 2025

The Trent Athletics Centre unveiled significant upgrades to its Fitness Centre, aimed at improving accessibility, functionality, and the overall training experience to inspire and maintain a culture of healthy living at Trent and in Peterborough.

"This redesign is a reflection of Trent University's commitment to promoting health, wellness, and athletic excellence," said Nathan McFadden, director of Athletics and Recreation at Trent. "By investing in modern equipment and creating a space that fosters strength and functional movement, the University is ensuring access to a top-tier fitness experience, as well as high-performance training for student-athletes."

Throughout February, key enhancements were made to the Fitness Centre including the addition of eight flush-mount lifting platforms, expanded free-weight and selectorized equipment areas, and specialized sound-suppressant flooring. Additional upgrades, such as new treadmills, updated televisions, and a reorganized layout, further improve the gym environment for users of all fitness levels.

Excalibur varsity athletes, in particular, will benefit from the enhanced strength and conditioning facilities. Dedicated training spaces will allow for more effective, targeted workouts, improving performance and reducing injury risk. This builds on existing offerings of specialized training equipment at the Trent Athletics Centre, including the Carol Love indoor rowing/paddling tank.

Following segmented space closures while the redesigns took place, Trent University hosted a grand reopening event where Trent students, staff and faculty, as well as community members explored the enhanced facility, experiencing the improved layout, and viewing demonstrations by staff and Excalibur student-athletes.

The revitalized Fitness Centre is set to serve as a premier training facility for the Trent and Peterborough region communities, offering an enhanced experience for both casual gym-goers and high-performance athletes.
