EMPOWERING GIRLS IN TECH
Fanshawe hosts Girls Rock IT event

More than 200 grade 7 and 8 girls will visit Fanshawe on May 10 for Girls Rock IT, an informative and empowering event designed to spark interest into the exciting world of information technology and post-secondary opportunities in this field. 

Girls Rock IT intends to challenge stereotypes and inspire girls to pursue their interests in technology with confidence and enthusiasm. The event will include informative workshops and presentations led by passionate faculty and staff. 

"Girls Rock IT is more than just an event; it's a catalyst for change, igniting the spark of curiosity in over 200 grade 7 and 8 girls," says Dev Sainani, associate dean for Fanshawe's School of Information Technology. "With workshops ranging from coding to cybersecurity to success strategies and maintaining positive mental health, we're building bridges to a future where diversity thrives in the tech industry." 

"Girls Rock IT is an inclusive event designed to ignite girls' passion for technology and equip them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to pursue rewarding careers in IT," says Caitlin Ritchie, academic services consultant at Fanshawe's School of Information Technology and the event organizer. "By cultivating a supportive and encouraging environment, Girls Rock IT aims to empower the next generation of female leaders in the information technology industry."
