ABBOTSFORD SCHOOL DISTRICT
2024 Heroes in Education Honoured by Abbotsford Community

March 12, 2024

We are thrilled to announce that four outstanding individuals from the Abbotsford School District have been recognized as "Heroes in Education" in a special publication by the Abbotsford News. This prestigious honour celebrates those who have gone "Above and Beyond" in their dedication to education and made a significant impact on the lives of our students. Nominated by the community, these heroes exemplify the spirit of excellence and commitment that defines our district. Join us in congratulating them on this well-deserved recognition and thanking them for their exceptional contributions to education in Abbotsford.

Jennifer Romano, Educational Assistant
Chief Dan George Middle School

"Romano knew she wanted to work with children, so after her own children were older, she went back to school to become an educational assistant. She has formal training to work with students who have diverse needs..."

Gurp Mahil, Vice-principal
Clearbrook Elementary

"After graduating RHSS, Mahil attended the University of the Fraser Valley, where he thrived as a student and in several different roles on campus. He was a walk-on for the UFV Cascades men's soccer team and went on to play four years with that team and was also the first-ever South Asian to become the Student Union president. Mahil said he initially wanted to go into accounting, but wanted to be in a position to do more good for the community so he went down the education route."

Doug Primrose, Athletic Director
Yale Secondary

"As the athletic director, Primrose ensures that Yale has successful athletic programs. The sports at Yale have helped kids with their self-esteem and sense of belonging, and it allows them to be part of a team environment. This combines into a strong school culture and sense of identity."

Crystal Davids, Teacher
W A Fraser Middle School

"The motivation for helping others is what drew Davids to teaching, and she always knew she wanted to be in education. She chose middle school because her Grade 6 and 7 teachers were influential and memorable in her life. She recalls feeling like she mattered and knowing she could make a difference."

We are immensely proud of our talented and dedicated staff. The community has rightfully acknowledged their unwavering commitment and hard work. Their passion for education not only inspires us but also makes us fortunate to have them as part of #AbbySchools.
