Trustee Clement has informed the District of his resignation as a trustee with the Board of Education for personal reasons.
"Trustee Clement's commitment to public education in Vancouver is admirable," says Janet Fraser, Chair, Vancouver Board of Education. "It was a pleasure to serve alongside him, and, on behalf of students, families, staff and the Board, I want to thank him for his dedication to serving students throughout our District."
"I want to especially acknowledge his dedication to Indigenous students and reconciliation, LGBTQ2S advocacy and addressing poverty impacts for our students," she adds.
Initially elected in 2008, Trustee Clement, of the Ktunaxa First Nation and former residential school student and survivor, was the first-ever Indigenous person to serve as a trustee in Vancouver. He served three terms as trustee from 2008-2011, 2011-2014 and again from October 2017. During his most recent tenure, Trustee Clement was vice-chair for VSB Personnel & Staff Services Committee, and a member of the Planning & Facilities, Education & Student Services and Finance & Legal committees. He was the trustee-school liaison for the Prince of Wales family of schools (Carnarvon, Shaughnessy, Trafalgar), the Tupper family of schools (Brock, Dickens, Dickens Annex, Livingstone, McBride, McBride Annex, Nightingale) and the Gathering Place Education Centre.
