Students across the District have been achieving excellence in many arenas, in everything from robotics to sports. Read about some of their recent successes below.

Several students from Burnaby Schools competed in the Math Challengers Lower Mainland Regional Competition held at UBC. Jonathan, a Grade 7 student in the Multi-Age Cluster Class (MACC) program at Suncrest Elementary, brought home two first place titles in the Grade 9 Pool A category and secured a spot for Provincials. Three teams from Moscrop Secondary earned first place titles, also qualifying for Provincials in May. Individually, 16 students from Moscrop finished in the top ten for their grade level.

At the provincial VEX Robotics Competition, one of the District's Robotics Teams - hosted at Alpha Secondary - won the championship. They qualify, once again, for the world championship. Separately, in the Pacific Regional FIRST Robotics Competition - in which half the teams come from outside of Canada - the robotics group from Byrne Creek Community School placed 2nd of the BC teams and 14th overall.

Nearly 100 students participated in the District's Concours D'art Oratoire, a French language public speaking competition, held this year at Alpha Secondary. The students ranged from those enrolled in French Immersion in elementary or secondary school, to those taking Core French at high school. Seventeen children and youth - from École Armstrong, Sperling, Brantford and Westridge Elementary schools, as well as École Cariboo, Moscrop and Alpha Secondary schools - placed first. They're invited to the Provincials in May at SFU's Surrey Campus. The competition is put on by Canadian Parents for French.

Students from several BC high schools - including Alpha, Burnaby Central, Burnaby South, Byrne Creek and Cariboo Hill Secondary schools - participated in the Eth ́s Lab Blackathon hosted at Microsoft in downtown Vancouver. About 150 students learned about a Black inventor, and then worked to hack their invention during the day-long immersive experience. Cariboo Hill earned a second-place win.

Before Spring Break, student-athletes were competing in the final days of the winter sports season, with many earning high achievements and banners. The Girls Curling Team from Moscrop Secondary won the BC School Sports Curling Championship title after competing at Provincials in Kimberly, BC. Wrestlers at Cariboo Hill Secondary followed up last year's win at Provincials with an encore of gold and silver medals at this year's competition.
