NANAIMO LADYSMITH PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Superintendent/CEO Announcement

March 9, 2018

The Board has concluded its comprehensive search for Nanaimo Ladysmith Public School's next Superintendent and CEO. Board Chair Steve Rae is pleased to announce Scott Saywell as the successful candidate.

The extensive process began this past September when the Board of Education hired Go Futures Human Resources Inc. to assist in the application and hiring process. Since that time, the Board, senior staff and multiple partner groups had the opportunity to provide feedback on what experience they feel is required of the next Superintendent/CEO. The public was also given the opportunity to provide feedback via an online survey.

Mr. Saywell is currently the district's Assistant Superintendent for secondary programs, a position he has held for the past five years. In his 27 years of service in education, Mr. Saywell has strived to build quality schools and school district by working with its most unique and disadvantaged members and creating a number of new district programs which include: Learning Alternatives, House of Learning, Learn@Home, and Aboriginal Outreach.

Mr. Saywell holds a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University, and Bachelors of Education and Science from Mount Allison University. He has taught in schools in Nova Scotia as well as NLPS, has held Vice-Principal positions at Northfield/Northbrook and Ladysmith secondary schools, and was a District Principal of Learning Alternatives.

"The Board was very impressed by the pool of talent NLPS attracted from across Canada and internationally, however it was clear, that Mr. Saywell possesses the necessary experience to guide the district for our next generation of learners," said Board Chair Steve Rae. "In deciding who would be the next Superintendent, the Board conducted a thorough evaluation of the most qualified individuals and also considered its goals, vision and the positive direction it has taken these past number of years. The Board has unwavering confidence in Mr. Saywell and that his vision for increasing success for all students will aid in continuing our reputation as a Lighthouse District in BC education."

"I am humbled and honoured by the appointment to Superintendent/CEO," said Assistant Superintendent Scott Saywell. "I am looking forward to continuing in the footsteps of retiring Superintendent John Blain and leading the district's vision of Success for All."
