April 27, 2023

Five School District 72 students medaled at the Skills Canada Provincials on April 19 at the Abbotsford Tradex, three of which were gold medals earning those students the chance to compete at the national event in Winnipeg on May 25-26.

Matthew Baker of Timberline Secondary took provincial gold in website development, and Eliot Sidlick and Logan Jones of Carihi Secondary earned gold in 3D animation. Congratulations also go to Andrew Hrybko of Timberline Secondary on earning the silver medal in cabinet making and Markus Johnson of Carihi Secondary for his bronze in welding.

These students qualified for the provincials after placing gold in their regional skills competitions held in March at the Timberline Secondary/North Island College campus.

The goal of Skills Canada is to encourage students to explore areas of interest in the trades and technology fields. The Canadian skills competitions are an Olympic-style competition which showcases students' technical and leadership skills.
