PSD Announces Assistant Principal Appointments for 2022-2023

Parkland School Division's Superintendent of Schools, Shauna Boyce, is pleased to announce the following administrative appointments for the 2022-2023 school year, effective August 2022.

Nicole Marcinkevics, Assistant Principal at Graminia School, will move to École Meridian Heights School as Assistant Principal, upon her return from maternity leave. In the interim, Lindsay McCulloch will serve as Acting Assistant Principal at École Meridian Heights School. Heather Huisman, Assistant Principal at École Meridian Heights School, will move to Prescott Learning Centre. Erin Chessor, will be removing the title Acting Assistant Principal to become Assistant Principal at Graminia School.

Tracey Gilmour, a teacher at Muir Lake School, and Kyla Moore, a teacher at Connections For Learning, will each assume the role of Assistant Principal at their respective schools.

"At Parkland School Division, we are proud of the school community members and leaders who continually challenge themselves with new opportunities for the betterment of our students and families," stated Superintendent Boyce.

"Whether it be current school leaders who look to other schools within our jurisdiction as places where they can contribute through collaboration and growth, or teachers who take their classroom experience with them on new journeys into school administration, we are grateful for staff who dedicate themselves to lifelong learning and serve as excellent role models for our students."

Nicole Marcinkevics, Assistant Principal
École Meridian Heights School (K-9)

Nicole began her teaching career with Parkland School Division at Stony Plain Central School after earning her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in 2008. Throughout her PSD journey, she has taught at Stony Plain Central School, Brookwood School, and Prescott Learning Centre, along with one year in Northern Lights School Division. She also served as Collaborative Teaching Partner at Prescott, Graminia, and Parkland Village Schools working with Kindergarten to Grade 9 students and teachers in the area of literacy. Along with her teaching and team-teaching experience in Early Years classrooms, Nicole has taught Grade 7 Language Arts, band and developed a Career & Technology Foundations course for students interested in textiles and design. In 2019, Nicole accepted her first administrative role becoming Assistant Principal at Graminia School.

Nicole completed her Master's of Education with a focus on Early Learning and Literacy from the University of Alberta in 2013. In 2016 she began a Master's of Business Administration at the University of Alberta School of Business, with a focus on Organizational Leadership and Strategic Management, and completed her studies in 2020.

"I will treasure the time and memories I have shared with Graminia staff, students, and families. I am looking forward to bringing all I have learned with me to École Meridian Heights School to connect and work alongside the school community."

Lindsay McCulloch, Acting Assistant Principal
École Meridian Heights School (K-9)

Lindsay joined Parkland School Division in 2012 as a middle years alternative education teacher at École Meridian Heights School, where she has served her entire PSD career to date. She became a Humanities teacher for Grades 8 and 9 students and has also acted as an on-site behaviour consultant. Lindsay taught Middle Years Alternative Education at École Broxton Park School and taught Grade 2 at Brookwood School before joining the staff at Meridian Heights in 2016. Currently, Lindsay is coordinating a reading fluency development program (precision reading) for Grades 7 to 9 English and working to expand it to include Grade 7 French. Lindsay began her teaching career with Regina Public Schools in 2004.

Lindsay earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Regina in 2004 and a Master of Educational Studies from the University of Alberta in 2021.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching in the junior high department at École Meridian Heights School, and am honoured to move into an administrative role within our building. I am looking forward to supporting students, teachers and the community as we continue to learn and grow next year."

Erin Chessor, Assistant Principal
Graminia School (K-9)

Erin Chessor has been a familiar face in the Graminia School Community for the past 10 years. She joined PSD in 2012 and has served as a classroom teacher for grades 3, 4 and 6. She stepped into a leadership role in 2021 when she became Acting Assistant Principal at Graminia. Prior to joining PSD, Mrs. Chessor taught for two years at Elk Island Public Schools and before that, started her teaching career as a full-time Grade 2 teacher at New Horizons School in Sherwood Park. She has been the Numeracy Intervention Lead at Graminia School, participated in the PSD Leadership Development Program and previously sat on the Superintendent's Advisory Committee.

Erin earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in 2004 as well as a Master of Education, Technology in Education Specialization degree from the U of A in 2013.

"I am thrilled to be continuing on in a leadership role at Graminia. It is an honour to become Assistant Principal and take what I have learned while serving in that role on an acting basis over the last school year to further support the students, families and staff of Graminia."

Heather Huisman, Assistant Principal
Prescott Learning Centre (K-9)

Heather's educational journey began overseas in Japan teaching English as a second language to high school students in Tsuwano as part of the Japanese Exchange Teaching Program. She travelled abroad from 1999 to 2001 before returning to the Edmonton area to begin her career with Parkland School Division. She's provided modified programming for students with diverse needs in Grades 1 through 6, has been an Early Education teacher, a Collaborative Teaching Partner with Early Childhood Services and an Early Childhood Facilitator working with a multi-disciplinary team supporting school teams, children, and families throughout the division in Early Ed and Kindergarten. She was also a Collaborative Teaching Partner at Millgrove School. Since 2019, Heather has served as Assistant Principal at École Meridian Heights School.

Heather earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta in 1999 as well as a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Portland in 2012.

"It has been an honor to serve the students, staff, and community of École Meridian Heights for the past three years. What a joy it has been to be part of this community; learning alongside one another, celebrating success, and building lasting relationships. Although I will miss the Meridian Magic, I am looking forward to starting a new chapter with the great team at Prescott Learning Centre."

Tracey Gilmour, Assistant Principal
Muir Lake School (K-9)

Tracey began her teaching career in the United Kingdom where she served as a Kindergarten to Grade 6 teacher and school leader. She joined PSD as a Collaborative Teaching Partner at Muir Lake School in 2018. Over the past four years, Tracey has focused on the Nature Kindergarten program of choice to ensure the provision of high-quality educational experiences that build student competencies through experiential learning while meeting the requirements of Alberta's programs of study. She also currently works alongside the Muir Lake administration team to support the implementation of the Collaborative Response Model and holds the position of Health Lead.

Tracey earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies (honours) from the University of East Anglia in 2002, achieved Qualified Teacher Status from Nottingham University in 2006, a Post-Graudate Diploma in Special Needs Education from that same institution in 2011 and completed a Master of Educational Leadership from Yorkville University in 2020.

"I am truly excited to start my leadership journey with Parkland School Division. It has been a pleasure to work alongside the staff and students at Muir Lake School and an honour to support this wonderful team in this new role as Assistant Principal."

Kyla Moore, Assistant Principal
Connections for Learning (1-12)

Kyla came to PSD in 2013 and served the students of Parkland Village School in a variety of positions, including Grade 1 Literacy, Kindergarten, K to 4 Tinkerlab and Learning Coach. Later, she moved to a Collaborative Teaching Partner/Inquiry Team Lead position that saw her supporting multiple grades and schools across the division. She is currently the K-9 Virtual Learning Program Lead at Connections For Learning, where she also serves as Inclusive Education Lead and assists with organizing summer school. Kyla believes that technology provides endless possibilities for working with students, families and school teams and has harnessed the opportunity that a combination of remote and in-person learning has presented her to enhance her communication, organizational and leadership skills. Prior to joining PSD, Kyla taught students at two different schools with the Foothills School Division.

Kyla earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta in 1995 and a Master of Education in Leadership from the University of Calgary in 2019.
