The City of Winnipeg and LRSD Begin Construction of New Outdoor Running Track

June 25, 2018

On Monday, June 18, 2018, students and staff from LRSD joined Mayor Brian Bowman, City Councillor Brian Mayes, Elder Jules Lavallee and members of the LRSD school board for a sod turning and land blessing at Victor Mager School.

The ceremony was hosted in celebration of upcoming construction on a new 400-metre outdoor running track being built at Victor Mager. The running track will be a proud addition to go along with the new Murray Field just across the street at Dakota Collegiate.

Murray Field provides numerous amenities for football, soccer, basketball and an Indigenous Interpretive area. The new track at Victor Mager School will provide yet another place for students and community members to enjoy athletic activities.

The four-lane, rubberized track is the first 400-metre track to be built in Winnipeg since the 1967 Pan Am Games.

We are thankful to be partnering with the City of Winnipeg once again as the $750,000 of funding to build the track will come from the City ($500,000) and Councillor Brian Mayes' Ward Fund ($250,000).

We're proud to continue working with Councillor Mayes and the City of Winnipeg to create safe and accessible outdoor spaces that provide our families and community members opportunities for healthy lifestyles!
