LOUIS RIEL SCHOOL DIVISION
Windsor School Receives an Early Birthday Gift

August 26, 2022

Windsor School students, Principal Baker, Coun. Brian Mayes, and LRSD Trustees Chris Sigurdson and Louise Johnston, Chair of the Board, standing in the spot of the future outdoor classroom.

On August 22, Windsor School announced it was approved for $12,000 in funding from the Riel Community Committee (St. Vital Ward allocation) to assist with the cost of building an outdoor classroom.

Darren Baker, Principal at Windsor School, has been working with Coun. Brian Mayes for a couple of years to come up with a plan on how to amplify the school's outdoor space.

"We wanted a designated spot outside where we can come to learn and do some pretty cool stuff," said Principal Baker.

Students at Windsor School will have the chance to give their input on what the outdoor classroom will look like and how to make it a great learning space.

"Outdoor classrooms are going up in many places within the Louis Riel School District, and I'm glad to be a part of this," said Coun. Mayes. "We wanted to do something to celebrate the 100th birthday of the school."

Principal Baker is hoping to break ground at Windsor in the fall.

"If we've learned anything over the last couple of years, it's that we truly should be outdoors more," said Louise Johnston, Chair of the LRSD Board of Trustees. "Having a designated outdoor classroom will be good for this community."

Windsor School will be celebrating its 100th birthday on September 29.
