Elizabeth Brace appointed principal of Mildred Hall School

Yellowknife Education District No. 1 (YK1) is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Brace as principal of Mildred Hall School, effective August 24, 2020.

Elizabeth obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Performance Music, History and Education and her Bachelor of Education at Bishop's University in Sherbrooke, Quebec. She began her teaching career in Ontario before moving to Yellowknife where she joined YK1 in 2007. Elizabeth has been teaching at Mildred Hall School for the past 13 years.

As the music teacher at Mildred Hall School, Elizabeth has taught all students from junior kindergarten to Grade 8, directed school choirs and bands, organized Christmas and spring music concerts and produced and directed school musicals. While at Mildred Hall School, Elizabeth has also had the opportunity to branch out from teaching music to teach Grade 2 homeroom, physical education and Grades 7 and 8 exploratories including home economics, art and outdoor education. Elizabeth has assumed the role of acting principal on numerous occasions, and has been a member of Mildred Hall School's leadership team and positive behaviour and intervention support team.

Outside of school, Elizabeth uses her leadership and musical talents to direct choirs within Yellowknife including the Fireweed Children's Chorus. Elizabeth is currently enrolled in the Masters of Education Program for Educational Leadership at Bishop's University. Elizabeth teaches and leads with the strong belief that all children can succeed. She recognizes the strengths in each child and understands that staff are the foundation on which to build. Elizabeth is excited to work with staff at Mildred Hall School in her new position and to celebrate the diversity of the school's students and families.
