Regional Skills Competition Results

Students from across our region have successfully competed in the Skills Ontario Regional Competitions, with several advancing to the Provincial level in Toronto this May.

The regional competitions showcase the exceptional talents of students in various technical and skilled trades, preparing them for future careers in these in-demand fields. Winners from the regional competitions will advance to the Provincial Competition in Toronto on May 5-7, with the opportunity to progress to the Skills Canada National Competition.

Regional Competition Results

The following students achieved top placements in their respective categories:

2D Character Animation

• First Place: Koa Montigny and Xander Murray (THVS) - Advancing to Provincials in Toronto

Aesthetics

• First Place: Chloe Babiak (THVS)

Architectural Technology and Design

• First Place: Nathan Fortin (THVS)

Cabinetmaking

• First Place: Quinley Carrier (EHS)

Coding

Geographical Information Systems

• First Place: Kate Parker and Reese Blackburn (EHS)

Graphic Design - Presentation

• First Place: Maren Timmins (THVS)

Graphic Design - Studio Production

• First Place: Kourtney Koole (TDSS)

Hairstyling

• First Place: Brandy Sutherland (THVS)
• Second Place: Madycen Pilon (KLDCS)

Home Building (Team of 4)

• First Place: Emma Babcock, Christopher Pichette, Aaron Mowbray, and Jackson Twarowski (EHS)

Photography

• First Place: Mikayla Maylor (KLDCS)

Robotics (Team of 4)

• First Place: Liam McBean, Iurii Kovalev, Christopher Mallette, and Mason Smith (KLDCS)
• Second Place: Simon Ettles, Jacob Alexander, Zayden Sophia, and Destiny Pender-Nietishpach (TDSS)

Qualifier Competitions

Several competitions require an additional qualifying round before advancing to Provincials. These students will compete in North Bay on April 5:

Carpentry - Individual

• First Place: Russell Booth (EHS) - Advancing to Provincials in Toronto
• Second Place: Vaughn Wittmaak (TDSS)

TV & Video Production (Team of 2)

• First Place: Matej Vojkuvka and Sophia Crooker (KLDCS) - Advancing to Provincials in Toronto
• Second Place: Abbigail Tickner-Riopel and Quinn Collier (THVS)
• Third Place: Dexter Bedard and Landyn Beard

Welding

• First Place: Curtis Shillinglaw (TDSS)
• Second Place: William Rooney (TDSS)
• Third Place: John Bartlett (TDSS)

Upcoming Competitions

Regional competition for Auto Service Technology will be taking place at TDSS on April 17. We would like to thank Wilson Ford for their generous support of this event. They have donated the cars used as part of the competition.

The IT Network Systems Administration competition is scheduled to take place soon, with results to be announced.
