GRAND ERIE DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Trustees Approve Sustainable, Balanced 2025-26 Budget - 93% of new staffing investments are directed into the classroom

June 25, 2025

The Grand Erie District School Board approved balanced operating and capital budgets for the 2025-26 school year during the Regular Meeting of the Board on Monday, June 23. Both budgets will now be submitted to the Ministry of Education.

"On behalf of the Board of Trustees, this budget reaffirms our commitment to delivering high-quality education with an intentional approach to long-term sustainability across Grand Erie schools to support students and staff in our growing community," says Susan Gibson, Chair of the Board.

"The investments outlined are a result of a thoughtful balance between today's priorities and tomorrow's needs for all learners. With a strong financial foundation, a committed team, and a clear vision for success, we're well-positioned to learn, lead, and inspire together," says JoAnna Roberto, Director of Education.

Budget highlights include:

  • New staffing investments for three teaching positions, one school administrator, one support for Multi-Lingual Learners, 1.5 custodial positions and 1.5 child and youth workers, five educational assistants, and five early childhood educators
  • Significant non-staffing investments including additional resources for Specialized Services, transportation funding, technology infrastructure, professional development for educational assistants, and classroom resources
  • Capital budget of approximately $21.9 million allocated for investments in buildings, school grounds, renovations, upgrades and repairs

"This budget demonstrates fiscal responsibility, ensuring funds directly support the work of staff to make a positive difference in the lives of Grand Erie students," says Rafal Wyszynski, Superintendent of Business and Treasurer. "This budget was a collaborative effort informed by a transparent process grounded in our collective values and priorities to guide decisions that address real needs and build equitable, future-ready solutions."

As an increase in student enrolment continues to drive revenue, Grand Erie's operating budget is approximately $425 million, up about $28 million from last year's approved operating budget. Total projected student enrolment is expected to be 28,085 up approximately 185 pupils from the 2024-25 estimates budget.

Developing the budget involved a process of community consultation, inviting students, staff members, parents/caregivers and community members to provide input to identify priorities and best allocate funding.
The fiscal year for Ontario school boards runs from September 1 to August 31.
