A special evening in Niagara Falls included celebrating a special HSCDSB employee. Superintendent of Education Christine Durocher was recognized by the Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers' Association prior to her retirement this June.
Christine has dedicated herself to Catholic education as a teacher, administrator, and supervisory officer for over thirty years.
Christine officially began her teaching career in 1994 with the Sault Ste. Marie Roman Catholic Separate School board, as an occasional teacher. She was hired permanently in 1997 where she taught at Holy Angels Catholic Elementary School.

In September 1998, and in the newly amalgamated Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, Christine continued her teaching journey at St. Ann and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Elementary Schools. She entered her first administrative role in 2008, when she became Vice-Principal/Acting Principal at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Elementary School.
The board was fortunate to have Christine move into her permanent Principal position in 2010, where she led the school communities at St. Hubert, St. Pius, Holy Family and St. Mary's French Immersion Catholic Schools.
In 2019, the board was blessed to add Christine to the senior executive team as a Superintendent of Education. Over the years, she was responsible for extensive portfolios such as the Curriculum Department and Health and Safety. She provided outstanding direction for the board during the COVID-19 pandemic as the board's health and safety lead. In addition, her expertise in Early Intervention, Literacy, Numeracy, Indigenous languages and programs, and Multi-Lingual Learner programs, have been an incredible asset to the board.
Genuine, positive, organized, enthusiastic, creative and articulate are just a few words to describe Christine. Her natural ability to mentor so many, being a cherished friend and her outstanding dedication to all aspects of the board are remarkable.
Once retired, Christine hopes to find a new passion that fulfills her just as much as being in education has and will leave it to God to guide her to her next adventure.
Christine was very honoured for the recognition of her peers, "I feel very fortunate to have worked alongside many wonderful colleagues and mentors who helped me grow and thrive as a leader. I am proud to have been surrounded by teams who always put student well-being at the forefront, and it has truly been a blessing to be a part of the OCSOA family."
