Maureen Adamson, the sixth president of Fleming College in Peterborough and former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport for the government of Ontario will become the Interim president and CEO of Colleges Ontario, effective January 1, 2025.
With 25 years of progressive experience in the postsecondary, healthcare, government, and not-for-profit sectors, Adamson was the President and CEO of the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences, the CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Canada, and has held volunteer Board positions with Research Canada, the Toronto Transit Commission, the Scarborough Health Network, and is a current board member of the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation. Adamson will fulfil the role on an interim basis until December 31, 2025.
"Maureen's extensive experience in the Ontario post-secondary and political sectors will be invaluable to Colleges Ontario as we continue to navigate considerable change and challenges in higher education. We know many people underestimate the value of a college education, and the benefits our graduates bring to the provincial economy and workforce" said Glenn Vollebregt, the chair of Colleges Ontario and president and CEO of St. Lawrence College.
"There has been no better time to advocate for Ontario colleges and students, and it is difficult for anyone to enter a healthcare, manufacturing, construction, technical, service, or trades setting in Ontario without meeting a college graduate at work. We are proud of our students, our programs, and our graduates and we will continue helping folks understand what Ontario colleges bring to the table. We appreciate the flexibility of Fleming's Board of Governors in ensuring Maureen could step into this role on an interim basis."
Adamson takes on the interim role from Acting President and CEO Cameron Clairmont, who is fulfilling the position between now and the end of the 2024 calendar year. Marketa Evans, former president and CEO is no longer with Colleges Ontario.
